CHARG Resource Center has a strong reputation in Colorado’s mental health community for its consumer-directed model of services for adults who are managing chronic mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depression. A psychiatric clinic, a drop-in center, a homeless outreach team, advocacy, and community education make CHARG a challenging and rewarding placement. CHARG consumers are active partners not only in their treatment but also in the governance of our agency, making this internship experience educational in many unexpected ways.

Interns must come with a desire to join a small professional team utilizing a strengths-based model, and dedicated to the empowerment of persons who, in spite of their psychiatric disabilities, form an important part of the organization. Interns work under the supervision of licensed therapists and become integral member of the clinical team. Areas of responsibility include individual and group therapy, case management, and advocacy.

Candidates must possess a willingness to learn about the field of mental health, an ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and work independently, and a desire to make a difference in the lives of some amazing people – and please bring a sense of humor!

“It excites me to make a difference in people’s lives. Being an intern at CHARG actually enabled me to do so. I was able to learn from the team of great professionals and help clients to make positive changes in their lives. For me it was more than just an learning experience –it was a place where I first practiced my academic knowledge and realized that it really works. It was a place where I realized that I’ve chosen the right profession and can be successful at it. Thank you all staff members for support, understanding, non-judgmental approach and all the good advice I’ve been provided.” -Alex Boyko
